Pass the Peace With the Serenity Prayer

Our social media feeds can be places of encouragement or places of protest, divisiveness, and stress. Several of my friends have "signed off" of their social media accounts as a result of comment wars and fiery posts - yes, mostly over politics!

Then at Bible Study Thursday night, "The Serenity Prayer" was mentioned...and I thought it was a good reminder for all of us right now...please share and fill your social media with a beautiful and positive note...

If you would like a print, you can head over to my shop - here is a direct link

Let the simple petition of the “Serenity Prayer” be a gentle encouragement in your home – a reminder to focus on the attributes of serenity, courage, and wisdom no matter what is happening in your life or in the world!

11 x 14 print for $15.00!

You need only to be still...

"The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still..."
~ Exodus 14:14

One of my "go to" worship songs speaks of "Being Still"...

and what does one do, when standing in the stillness?

You praise Him, you remind yourself of His wonderful deeds and power. You declare along with the young men of Israel who were slaves in a foreign land:

"...If we are thrown into the blazing furnace,
the God we serve is able to deliver us from it,
and he will deliver us from Your Majesty's hand.
But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty,
that we will not serve your gods
or worship the image of gold you have set up."
{Daniel 3:17-18}

Answer these questions as a prayer or praise:

What has He done for me in the past?
What has He done for others that can fuel hope and confidence in myself?
What promises has He given in His word? {Both to me specifically and to His people as a whole.}
What can I be thankful for right now?
What is my favorite characteristic of Him?
How can I make these things (in this list I am making) a declaration of my faith in Him?

A Merry Christmas Message - from God's heart to yours...

Emmanuel.  God with us.  Always.
You are never alone, for He is here...

Jesus was born -
with everything He needed to live a holy life, to defeat Satan, to bring salvation, to bring healing

        - to His people.

A precious newborn boy contained all the power needed to change the world.
A tiny baby was the greatest threat to the enemy's plan that the world would ever see...

So - remember...
No matter what you are feeling today -
No matter where you are today -
No matter how long you have been a Christ follower -
                                                          - a day
                                                          - a minute
                                                          - a year
                                                          - a lifetime

You are more than a conqueror; Who is in you is greater than who is in the world.  You have all you need - to do what you must do and to be what you must be...
 ...because...

the power present in Jesus at His birth is also in you, at work to fulfill His purpose for you.

Take heart.
Breathe Him in.
Be at peace.

The Exchange (more chalkboard art)...{Finding Sanctuary - Part 21}

Another free download, click here...

THE EXCHANGE OF CALVARY

The Cross of Christ is the inexhaustible exchange of Calvary.

All the evil that was due us was put               So that all the good due Jesus could be
was put on Jesus                                                given to us.

He was punished for our sins                          So that we could be forgiven.

He was wounded                                                 So that we could be healed.

He was made sin with our                                So that we could be made righteous
sinfulness

He died our death                                              So that we could have eternal life.

He became a curse for us                                  So that we could have the blessing that
                                                                               was due Him.

He became poor with our poverty                     So that we could be made rich
with His riches.

He endured our shame                                       So that we could receive His Glory.
He endured our rejection                                   So that we don't have to be rejected
anymore.  We are accepted the way
Jesus was accepted, as God's children.

 ********************************************************************
The rest of this post is part of the Finding Sanctuary series - read on if you are following!
Today is the final (almost) installment of the Finding Sanctuary series...one final activity to "seal" the work you and the Holy Spirit have been doing!  But first, a short recap...
We have been traveling a road of dealing with issues, the stuff that makes life less abundant than God ever wanted for us...by now, you and myself have been walking a new path for a couple of weeks, there have been times when we have stumbled and fallen...but we have gotten back up...

To be honest, I haven't added more to my original weaving piece, but I will {and I will show it to you!}....you know how life sometimes gets in the way of the best laid plans...but, I needed to spend the energy on actually making the inner heart changes...{smiling} plus getting ready for our Passover/Resurrection celebrations and our church has started lay counselor training - of which I am a part of (of course)... and the tree with roots art piece will definitely come forth after Sunday's celebration - it dovetails perfectly in the course material at church!

But, the final activity has always been:  a touchpoint of some sort...

What do I mean?  To me, a touchpoint is something tangible, small,
an act,
an exchange,
and a promise

that anchors this point in time to your life...

You can see the item, remember the act, lay hold of the promise...as long as you want!  And today is a perfect day - as we contemplate the cross of Jesus and all that was accomplished there.  And my touchpoints always involve taking an object that represents my issue to the cross and nailing it there {the act} - either figuratively or even sometimes literally, i.e., nailing a piece of paper on which is written the issue to a piece of wood.  But just as we never need to leave the cross empty in our hearts or empty handed, there is an exchange Jesus wants to do, so with this act, we want to "take something with us" after we have left the issue {the item} - something that reminds us of the exchange, something tangible...and then always. always. always. a promise from Scripture {the promise}...

Some ideas:
The item representing the issue                      The item representing the exchange          The promise
a stone or small rock                                       a paper heart (a "new" heart)                      Any
                                                                                                                                                     scripture
a twig - break it to represent the                     a silk leaf or a leaf that can be                   that
breaking of the power of                          preserved to represent                           the
the habit over you                                     "new life"                                                   Lord
                                                                                                                                                               or
a piece of dark cloth - representing                  a piece of white cloth -                                   a
the sin brought by this issue                       representing the righteousness              friend
in your life                                                  of Jesus you are walking in                          has
                                                                                                                                                          given
a piece of black construction paper -                  a silk flower, or flower that can           you
to represent a wound or trauma                      be preserved that represents             that
that was the root of this issue...                      your heart healing in this area          brings
                                                                                                                                                           hope
                                                                                                                                                             and
You can get the picture!                                                                                                                comfort

For me, today, making this chalkboard image is my touchpoint....the butteflies can mean our sin being removed; or new life emerging in all the areas that we have dealt with...or both!

Now, the Lord has also impressed on me that since it takes 60+ days to form a new habit, that we need to keep up the effort...and the timing is perfect to move from the "Feast of Firstfruits" on Sunday to "Feast of Weeks" on Pentecost!  So, I will post every Monday during these coming weeks - encouragement and thoughts to see you through...

Blessings on your Holy Weekend...

Chalkboard Bird Sketches and Photoshop Brushes

Little birds; tender; delicate; lively and loveable -
singing with abandon and stretching out their wings to let the currents take them soaring...

Seeking their rest at the altar of the Lord...
where my heart longs to be - where I need to be and where we will remain as the journey we are on helps us explore deep heart issues...
Monogram Heart Birds...one of the bird brushes and miscellaneous default brushes.  The Monogram is in a font titled "Rage" - very fancy and floral so I don't understand the name!

I've been wanting to make these bird brushes from drawings I had found for some time...
and with a quiet weekend upon us, I have it done...

a good break from mind maps!
I'll be using these to help with coming artwork...

18 Brushes in all-available in my etsy shop...

Vintage Thoughts on Love by Jack Hayford...{another chalkboard image}

Pastor Jack Hayford has long been a favorite teacher and author for me...while sifting through a stack of old "great articles to save", I found the following - just in time for Valentine's Day...

If you are having trouble reading the chalk lettering, the words are as follows:

Love is for moments when…

...people will test your patience - love is patient.
...people will need a friend, a hand - love is kind.
...people will excel your best or equal you - love is without envy.
...people will be unaware of your attainment - love is no braggart.
...i'm tempted to believe I'm an exception - love is not self-important.
...i'm inclined to discourtesy, impropriety - love is gracious.
...i'm too quick to contend for my rights - love is unselfish.
...i start to react irritably - love is slow to be provoked.
...i find myself "counting up" failures - love is without a record.
...some find delight in evil - love delights in the truth.
...we discover failures in others - love will always seek to cover these.
...someone needs a second chance - love will always risk to trust.
...disappointment or despair blight circumstances - love remains ever hopeful.
...trials shake those around you - love stands steadfast, dependable.

Jesus said, "This is My command: Love one another."

This particular chalkboard piece was made in "MyMemories" instead of Photoshop...one more day before I choose a winner (really Miss Sweet Tweener - drawing names out of the hat) of this software so pop over here and leave a comment!

Another Chalkboard Valentine for my Dh...

I used my own chalkboard background (see below),
made my own dots
the font is "Milk and Cereal"
Brushes used:  free from coydreamer/Brusheezy.com - Decorative 10 pack and Love Doodles 2 pack
free from r4fay/Brusheezy.com - Damned Hearts (ouch on that word, but that is what
                                                                                                                    it is called(!))

I am simply having way too much fun making chalkboard art this week!  So I am making valentines for my Dh (dear husband)...this one is a little more masculine I think...than the one yesterday... (which also includes a bunch of resource links for you)...

This time, I made my own chalkboard background in photoshop...scroll down for the recipe...it will be easy peasy for Kim Klassen Texture Sisters...

This back ground was made using:
one layer of Kim's "Add some noise 4" texture set at Darker Color blend mode
and
one layer of Kim's "Add some noise 1" texture set at Normal blend mode and 59% opacity.

I did adjust some of the marks in the lower fourth of Add some noise 1 to be less obvious.

Enjoy!

Make your own Chalkboard signs for Valentine's - a quick photoshop resource guide...

Take a photo of a chalkboard...load it on your computer, and use it as a background...
Or do a Google search for "chalkboard backgrounds for free" - such a selection!  Even green chalkboards (remember those?).  Maybe I am dating myself a little...

Here is a nice black, chalkboard to download...

Or go here and download a file that contains a gray, green and blue version all in one!

The above fonts are just a selection that I think look great in white chalk...you can find them for download at dafont.com.  The fonts are free for personal use...

The heart doodle brushes are ones I downloaded from Brusheezy.com and are made by coydreamer/brusheezy.com.  She has several files under the title "love doodles" - I have corresponded with her and she is so sweet!

The swirls on the right side are free brushes from a site called "obsidiandawn".

How about a list of love quotes from David's Bridal on...of course...Pinterest!

Or better, a list of scriptures on the subject of love + love quotes by great Christian leaders here...
and a list of quotes about love from general literature and famous people here.

You are ready to go - to make a beautiful one of a kind love note for your special valentine!

I'd love to see what you make, so if you are willing, please leave a link to your creation in the comments!

Here is the valentine I made for my hubby...

Later I'll show how to do a similar thing with the MyMemories digital suite...
